Focus and scope

The Water Security and Climate Adaptation in Southern Africa Book Series aims to advance high-quality scholarly research and critical understanding of the complex interplay between water security and climate change across Southern Africa and beyond. The series foregrounds the urgent challenges of sustainable access to water, the resilience of water systems and adaptive strategies in the face of climate variability and environmental stress.

The series welcomes empirical, theoretical and policy-oriented work that addresses key dimensions of water security, including but not limited to:

  • the impacts of climate change on water quantity, quality and distribution;

  • sustainable management of surface and groundwater resources;

  • assessment and mitigation of water-related disasters and hydrological risks;

  • tools and frameworks for measuring and improving water security and climate adaptation; and

  • integrated transboundary and interdisciplinary approaches to water-climate governance and resilience.

Through diverse methodological lenses, from environmental science and engineering to social, economic and governance perspectives, the series explores how water challenges intersect with human well-being, sustainable development and policy interventions. Contributions should strive to generate evidence-based insights that inform decision-making, enhance adaptive capacities of communities and institutions and promote water security in a changing climate.
