The NWU Community-based Educational Research Series showcases how collaborative initiatives generate knowledge to promote sustainable development, particularly within the southern African context. The series highlights how partnerships and collaboration among communities can enhance teaching and learning, both formally and informally, across various educational levels. It emphasises lifelong learning, ongoing professional development, and community-based social learning as key components of sustainable education.

Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially in the pursuit of quality education, the scholarly series shares empirical research, community-driven projects, and action research across all levels of education – from early childhood to tertiary education. The series integrates both theory and practice, focusing on participatory action research methods to demonstrate how these approaches can be applied to educational settings.

Through education and community engagement, the series contributes to several UNESCO SDGs by addressing inclusive environmental, social, and economic development.

The series is led by Professor Mariette Koen (mariette.koen@nwu.ac.za) from the North-West University Research Focus Area Community-Based Educational Research (COMBER) in collaboration with AOSIS. The series editor is committed to producing high-quality, peer-reviewed volumes dedicated to promoting sustainable education development.

If you would like to propose a chapter for the next volume, please contact the series editor.
